Welcome to Westside Circus
Westside Circus is a vibrant and growing community arts organisation creating circus, performance, physical theatre, music and leadership opportunities for young people.
Our core aim is to make a difference for young people between the ages of 3 and 25 from diverse social, and cultural backgrounds to access exciting and challenging programs which build confidence, promote personal wellbeing and create positive relationships both with peers and the community.
The Westside Circus has been in operation since 1995, when the artistic director, Debby Maziarz, began running circus workshops with young women from the juvenile justice system. Since then, the circus has grown each year, working with young people to create community and major performances showcased at festivals such as Melbourne Fringe, Next Wave and Moomba.
The scope of Westside Circus, however, reaches beyond our core youth programs into the broader Victorian community, creating workshops and performances for all ages. In 2010, Westside Circus is working with refugee and newly arrived groups from around Victoria in addition to a wide range of schools and community groups; as well as the many individuals from our Classes community.
